WELLNESS ATTENDANT

Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager is responsible for performing personal assistance tasks in an efficient and cooperative manner, with due consideration for residents, ensuring adherence to the principles of choice, independence, individuality, respect, dignity and a homelike environment.

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE WELLNESS ATTENDANT:

  • Graduate of a recognized LTC Aide program or equivalent experience.  Completion of medication administration module. 
  • Certified in Emergency First Aid, Level 1.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Food Safe.
  • Ability to maintain effective oral and written communications in English and have a positive self-projection, nurturing excellent human relations with residents, families and other team members.
  • Ability to work independently as well as taking direction.  Ability to work with minimum supervision and to evaluate and meet the residents’ service needs, demonstrating initiative and problem solving skills.
  • A people-person with a heart for seniors and a positive, outgoing disposition, a team player, flexible and versatile.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE WELLNESS ATTENDANT.

  • Performs personal assistance to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with the standards of the residence.
  • Assists in observing and reporting changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition.
  • Performs duties with an acceptable standard of skill and with a sense of responsibility.
  • Assists with other duties as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the residence, including assisting in the dining room or with occasional housekeeping duties.
  • Maintains effective oral and written communication and good human relations with residents, families, and staff, using appropriate lines of communication.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and assists in maintaining a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and personnel.
  • Participates in the overall activation process developed by the facility to promote the well-being of each resident (physical, spiritual, social, and emotional).
  • Aware of in-service education opportunities within the residence and seeks out those that will improve their personal level of practice to keep informed of current trends.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • Participates in the residence’s ongoing Fire Prevention, Pest Control, Continuous Quality Improvement,
  • Occupational Health and Safety, and Infection Control programs as required.
  • Handles all matters in a confidential manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned with an exemplary standard of skill and sense of responsibility

DINING ATTENDANT

Servers perform a variety of hospitality services within a restaurant setting such as take orders, provide information on daily specials, deliver orders, and ensure that every other aspect of customer service is covered. They are considered part of the overall dining experience and are expected to give more attention to customers and their services such as providing meal recommendations, wine pairing suggestions and educate customers about ingredients in dishes that they serve.

 BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE DINING SERVER:

  • Able to communicate clearly in and possess a good command of verbal and written English
  • A minimum of 1 years working experience
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to understand and respond to individual needs and requirements
  • Serving it Right; Food Safe Level 1; and possess a genuine interest in food and beverage
  • Basic math/financial calculations
  • Ability to multitask under pressure whilst maintaining a positive outlook and attention to detail
  • Able to organize time effectively prioritize tasks to ensure work load is balanced and situations are dealt with immediately.
  • Clean Criminal Records Check
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g. Verve Senior Living Competencies)
  • Physically able to meet the demands of the job in a fast-paced environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE DINING SERVER

  • To provide an exceptional customer dining experience.
  • Greet residents and guests as they arrive and introduce yourself (if necessary)
  • Provide information on revolving menu items and daily specials
  • Take beverage orders
  • Allow time for menu considerations, but keep a watchful eye for service calls
  • Answer questions regarding menu items and ingredients and provide information regarding dietary requirements/requests
  • Suggest appropriate wines or beverages to pair with meals
  • Stay current on items the kitchen may be running short of and suggest alternatives
  • Take orders for lunch & dinner and repeat order to ensure accuracy
  • Relay orders to the kitchen and check prepared orders for accuracy and portion size and that they are served in a time efficient manner
  • Prepare drinks according to customer instructions
  • Confirm customer satisfaction before delivering check (if required)
  • Clear table: clean and buss and reset with clean linen, china and cutlery

RECEPTIONIST

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Provides administrative support for the management team as well as clerical and reception duties as is necessary for the efficient operation of the office in accordance with the vision, values and standards of Verve Senior Living.

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Grade 12
Proven typing and general office administration skills
Computer skills (e.g., proficient in Word and Excel)
Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g., Verve Senior Living Competencies)
Communication skills – written and verbal – English
2 years’ experience in working with seniors in a similar setting (is preferred)
Must be able to work independently and multi-task

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides administrative support as necessary for the efficient operation of the home:
  • Clerical support to the management team and other staff (data entry, minutes, spreadsheets, posters, etc.)
  • Assists in the ordering, maintaining and monitoring of office supplies and/or store inventory
  • Establishes and maintains all resident files
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail
  • Records and stores lost property
  • Implements and maintains systems for tracking guest meals, revenue from services, added services and special event revenue
  • Along with Marketing ensures a smooth move-in for all residents, which includes welcome packages, resident orientation, allocation of keys etc.
  • Incidental Scheduling
  • Ensures that all security and office equipment is functioning and if not initiates corrective action

 Responsible for communications and public relations with residents, family members, staff and general public

  • Creates and distribute the daily resident census
  • Maintains necessary contact lists (resident, emergency, vendors, family members, staff)
  • Fields all inquiries, including marketing calls, and directs to appropriate department in a timely manner. In the absence of marketing staff ensure appointments are booked or tours are given.
  • Distributes updates and changes to policies and procedures to all department managers
  • Circulates memos as required

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Responsible for food preparation, employee management, kitchen hygiene and customer service. Job duties often include managing inventory, product quality, inspecting stores and ensuring cleaning routines are implemented all within the guidelines of licensing and regulatory standards.

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of grade 12
Chef Training or Culinary management diploma or certificate granted by a recognized College or completion of the institutional cooks program or equivalent.
A minimum of two years’ experience in volume food preparation at a Cook I or Cook II level Red Seal will be given preference
BC: Cook Level I; Food Safe level II; Serving it Right; Clean Criminal Records Check
Computer skills (e.g., proficient in Word and Excel, must be familiar with on line ordering systems and dietary software)
Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g., Verve Senior Living Competencies)
Communication skills written and verbal in English

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares food for residents and guests in accordance with food safety regulations, the approved menu and production methods best suited for nutritional quality and appearance.
  2. Ensures weekly menus have been approved by a recognized dietician, including in-season local products
  3. Supervises ordering for and distribution or resident meals
  4. Collaborates with all departments to provide refreshments/snacks/catering
  5. Ensures that food samples are taken and labelled as per regulations
  6. Ensures all temperature records are taken and documented as per regulation
  7. Controls expenses through re-purposing leftovers, portion control and waste management protocol
  • Ensures food temperate is maintained or cooked in smaller batches if necessary
  • Plates and garnishes meals in an attractive manner
  • Enhances choices through menu options and an array of condiments for individual preferences
  • Provides an assortment of alcoholic beverage choices, if applicable
  • Ensures all service practices meet hospitality standards.
  • Initiates audits regularly for on-going feedback
  • Attends interdisciplinary committee meetings regarding nutritional issues
  • Chairs the food advisory/resident food committee meetings

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:

Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Manager is responsible for performing housekeeping and laundry tasks in an efficient and cooperative manner, with due consideration for the residents living there

BACKGROUND / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in the English language
  • Needs visual acuity to ensure cleaning and laundry tasks are performed to standards
  • Be physically able to perform heavy lifting and withstand long periods of standing
  • Some experience in a hospitality, housekeeping and or laundry department is desirable
  • Possesses a pleasant, outgoing personality
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Food Safe

Key Responsibilities:

Housekeeping

  1. Performs daily, weekly and annual cleaning of all Resident suites and common areas, in accordance with established standards and procedures
  2. Replenishes paper supplies, hand soap as required in washrooms and laundry rooms
  3. Maintains housekeeping storage area, cart and equipment
  4. Provides general assistance to residents as required
  5. Vacuums all carpet areas including upper floor corridors, elevators and stairwells. Removes spots and stains from carpets and upholstery as required and according to established cleaning schedules. Operates carpet and floor cleaning equipment as required.
  6. Performs additional cleaning as required, including washing walls, lights, vents, fans, appliances, inside windows and frames and patio.

 Laundry

  1. Sorts laundry according to colour and type and pretreats stains as required
  2. Loads and unloads washers and dryers ensuring that proper setting are used for each type of load
  3. Inspects soiled linens to determine types of repairs needed. Sets aside linen not repairable for salvage use
  4. Ensures laundry rooms and all equipment and cars are kept in a clean, safe and sanitary condition.

General

Adheres to all policies and procedures in accordance with the Vision and Values of Diversicare/Verve Senior Living

  • Provides outstanding public relations with residents, potential clients, staff, suppliers and all persons visiting the residents
