UNIT: Nursing Resource Team

STATUS: Full Time

SALARY: $33.90 - $48.53

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The RN’s within STEGH’s Nursing Resource Team (NRT) will be trained to work between multiple units. Alternating between the Acute Medical Unit, Surgical Inpatient, and Continuing Care Centre departments; the NRT Registered Nurse will be assigned to their department upon arrival for each shift. The 50 bed Acute Medical Unit cares for patients with a wide variety of medical diagnoses; the 20 bed Surgical Unit is comprised of 15 surgical beds with an additional 5 Medical Surgical bed capacity; and the Continuing Care Centre consists of 37 beds, focusing on Rehabilitation, Palliative, Complex and Transitional Care. A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

HOURS:

Must be available for 11.25-hour day, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours assigned by the hospital.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • Previous one (1) year Acute Medical Care, and/or Surgical, and/or Continuing Care experience within the last three (3) years preferred
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to new environments as the department in which worked may change at a moment’s notice commencing and during the scheduled shift.
  • Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order
  • Experience with initiating IV site and solution, blood transfusions, chest tubes and underwater seals, chest auscultation, PCA and Epidural Analgesia, complicated dressing changes, gastro-intestinal care, airway management, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Ability to assess changing situations quickly and respond accordingly
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to acute medical nursing
  • Continuing education in heart & stroke preferred
  • Continuing education in geriatric nursing preferred
  • Palliative Care Fundamentals (Level 1) preferred
  • Basic computer skills (Cerner, Outlook, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Both an excellent performance and attendance record required.

    Continuing Education Required:
  • Maintain competencies to ensure they are relevant and up to date on a continuing basis
  • Maintain and continuously enhance competencies through continuous learning in order to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
  • Reflect on competencies in relation to changes occurring in the surrounding society and health environment in order to acquire and develop new competencies on an ongoing basis
  • Responsibility for educational support for competent nursing practice is shared among individual nurses, professional nursing organizations, employers, education institutions and governments as they make decisions that affect the common goal of quality care
  • Foster a culture of patient and staff safety guided by STEGH’s Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct
