POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 16-bed unit equipped for arrhythmic and hemodynamic monitoring, with ventilatory capability. The ICU provides services that range from post surgical care for adults, to medical supportive care for critically ill patients admitted from the Emergency Department, In-Patient Unit or transferred from other facilities. 

The RN is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgement, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.

 

HOURS:

Must be available for 7.50 and 11.25-hour day, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours as assigned by the hospital. The successful candidate must be available on a pre-determined basis for at least four (4) tours per bi-weekly pay period in the case of extended tours, and available either one (1) weekend in two (2) or three (3) weekends in six (6).
 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Preference will be given to those with at least one (1) year of  ICU experience within the last three (3) years
  • Critical Care Certification through the Canadian Nurses Association is preferred  
  • Current BCLS Certification is required
  • Current ACLS Certification is required
  • 5 and 12 lead ECG Rhythm interpretation is preferred
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to intensive care nursing
  • Ability to assess, adapt and respond within a constantly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook email, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program required

 

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work. Any candidate entering the facility to attend an interview will be required to provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status. To be considered fully immunized, individuals need to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days earlier than the date they are arriving to an interview or to begin work at STEGH.
