Unit Clerk

SALARY: $22.77- $24.75

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Acute Medical Unit encompasses AMU3, AMU4, and AMU5 and provides nursing care for patients with a wide variety of diagnosis including: gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory problems (pneumonia, chronic bronchitis) and cardiovascular disease (stroke, chest pain and heart failure). Our multi-disciplinary healthcare team is dedicated to promoting the maximum possible independence and healthiest lifestyle for all patients in the unit throughout their hospital stay. 

The Unit Clerk provides receptionist, clerical and patient centered duties that are essential to the efficient patient flow. This role includes but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring medical records, lab reports and other patient records are obtained, properly completed and securely stored while be readily accessible to physicians, nurses and other health care providers
  • Booking tests
  • Maintain supplies
  • Coordinating unit administrative functions
  • Assist in the efficient and effective operation of the unit
  • Answer phones and provide top notch customer service to callers

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department. This candidate must also meet the non-availability requirements of the Collective Agreement and be available for short notice relief coverage. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Medical Office Administration/Health Care Office Administration diploma/certificate required
  • At least one (1) year experience within the last three (3) years of unit clerk experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of alpha and terminal digit filing systems
  • General clerical experience including reception, filing, and ordering supplies
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent telephone etiquette
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision utilizing effective organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write legibly
  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated computer knowledge and skills (Electronic Patient Record, Cerner, Novari, Powerchart, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet/Intranet Usage).
  • Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program 
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record in alignment with STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
