Clinical Resource Nurse

SALARY: $37.58 - $51.22

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • The Clinical Resource Nurse provides leadership, coordination and functions as a support to clinical colleagues in problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and activities.
  • Offer professional guidance to patients and families, in collaboration with interdisciplinary team, related to health and wellness education, disease prevention, and safety.
  • Ability to provide full patient care and take on a full patient assignment
  • Assists with effective communication with patients and families in order to achieve an excellent patient care experience.
  • Acts as a resource to nursing colleagues in the provision of safe nursing care in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice.
  • Assist in modification of patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions.
  • Act as a mentor to novice staff members facilitating patient orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s condition.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues internal and external to the unit to facilitate safe and timely patient flow.
  • Maintains standardized work as required related to LEAN quality improvement initiatives.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday 08:00 – 16:00. The successful candidate must be available to work all shifts applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • BScN, or related education and experience that allows the RN to practice to full scope
  • Preference will be given to those who possess previous Clinical Resource Nurse experience.
  • Demonstrated communication skills that are reflective of the core values of the organization

  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence with an ability to support, education, and lead others
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in conflict prevention and resolution
  • Ability to adapt & work in a constantly changing environment
  • Proven ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s attendance at work program
  • Preference will be given to those who possess previous Clinical Resource Nurse experience

UNIT SPECIFIC SKILLS:

  • Three (3) years of relevant psychiatric nursing experience within the last five (5) years, required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Canadian Nursing Association Mental Health Nursing certificate (preferred)
  • Certificate in Gentle Persuasion Approach, or PIECES (preferred)
  • Certification in Concurrent Disorders (preferred).
  • Current Safe Management certification (preferred)
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the biological, psychological and social aspects of mental and substance use disorders
  • Ability to conduct thorough mental health assessments, risk assessments and screening for substance use
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Recent mental health outpatient experience, an asset
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • STEGH will provide orientation and ongoing education; full participation and commitment is required
  • Ability to coordinate discharge planning
  • Maintain, reflect, and enhance competencies to ensure up to date and relevant to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
  • Foster a culture of patient and staff safety guided by STEGH’s Mission, Visions, Values and Code of Conduct

 

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
