JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to assist in operating and maintaining the CCWA Wetlands Center.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assists in planning and conducting educational programs and tours which target different groups and age levels; prepares materials for programs; implements school and other guided programs; and assists in planning lessons as requested.
• Researches curriculum related areas to establish more of a knowledge base in environmental sciences, chemistry, technologies being used, and literary components.
• Collects data and reviews wildlife cameras within the site to utilize for educational purposes and identification of habitat management projects.
• Performs customer service functions; answers questions, and provides information regarding Center programs, fees, wetlands ecology, and related information; and monitors visitors.
• Provides habitat enhancements such as planting native species, invasive species removal, manual removal of overabundant species, and herbicide use when necessary and appropriate.
• Performs administrative duties within the Center; maintains visitor information; processes permit applications; designs interpretive signs; conducts related vehicle/site/AED inspections, creates wildlife/wetlands-based artwork; and contributes to creating content for social media and related duties.
• Handles program fees, customer purchases, manages visitor logs, helps curate social media and website content, videos, etc., and writes proposals for grants.
• Coordinates volunteer opportunities and programs for the Center.
• Conducts outreach activities; creates and maintains partnerships with outside organizations that reflect the same missions and goals as CCWA and Newman Wetlands Center; and focuses on environmental education, community outreach, and water resource based educational opportunities.
• Processes a variety of documentation associated with Department/Division operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
• Performs other assigned duties.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or related field; one (1) year of related work experience in wetlands education, ecology, or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• This posi?on classifies the physical exer?on requirements as medium work involving li?ing no more than 20 pounds at a ?me with frequent li?ing or carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds. If someone can do medium work, then he or she can also do sedentary and light work.
• Tasks may involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight; tasks may also involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature, noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or water hazards.
