EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent
HOUR(S) - ROTATION(S): 70 hours bi-weekly- Weekday, evening and weekend hours.
COMPENSATION: $22.15- $23.35 per hour
NATURE OF POSITION:
Hopkins Community Participation Supports provides personalized support to adults with diverse abilities. It operates out of the C.D. Hopkins Centre under the supervision of the Community Participation Manager. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday.
Training to provide support in 24-hour care sites will be provided, and if necessary staff may be temporarily assigned to provide support as necessary.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Primary Direct Support Professional, your main responsibility is to provide physical and emotional support to 1 to 3 participants. The role involves ensuring the safety of the participants and actively involving them in community activities and opportunities that align with their interests and goals. The ideal candidate for this position will strive to create a nurturing and welcoming environment that fosters inclusivity and support for all participants. They will prioritize the individual needs and goals of each participant to ensure that they have a fulfilling and enriching experience.
Duties may include but not limited to:
- Performing/Assisting with personal/hygiene care
- Assistance with meals and snacks
- Create and deliver appropriate opportunities and activities for adults with diverse needs.
- Maintain a professional demeanor when communicating with participants, their families and caregivers.
- Aid participant(s) to establish personal goals, develop a schedule to achieve these goals, and track their progress.
- Support participants in a diverse range of community locations and environments as an essential element of the program.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a supportive and positive work environment.
- Advocate for participants appropriately.
- Administer medication and maintain medication logs.
- Participate in annual ISP reviews for participants upon request.
- Maintain complete and confidential records for each participant.
- Attend and take part in staff meetings as needed.
- Follow all internal financial policies when using petty cash and participant finances.
- Follow policy and procedural items established by the agency for the health, safety and welfare of the participants in the program, staff, volunteers and members of the community.
- Follow all policy and procedural items established by the agency, as they pertain to employee conduct and performance.
- Follow all Occupational Health and Safety policies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent bending, twisting and pushing
- All agency mandatory training must be current
- Clean performance record
- The candidate must have received, at minimum, a high school diploma
- A valid ‘G’ driver’s license
- Must be reliable, flexible and able to work independently as well as in a team
