ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direct supervision of the Manager – Communications the Communications Specialist serves as a principal writer and editor, resource, planner, and content creator. Responsible for internal and external communications, marketing, media relations, and public relations events support.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education/Experience:

• Diploma or degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or other related field.
• A minimum of two years of experience in communications, public relations, media relations, marketing, or similar field.
• Demonstrated expertise in Social Media.

Skills/Abilities:

• Exemplary writing and editing skills.
• Impeccable attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to a wide variety of skill and interest levels.
• Strong visual and storytelling skills, with a proven ability to bring concept to life.
• Graphic design skills are an asset, specifically Adobe Creative Cloud (eg: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Experienced in working with a Content Management System, as well as social media platforms (eg: Facebook, LinkedIn) and management systems (eg: HootSuite).
• Demonstrated regular attendance at work

Asset:

• Photography and video production experience are an asset.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.
• Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own reliable transportation
• Ability to work irregular hours (requirement of the job ie: evening or weekend public engagement or event)
