Extruder Operator

Shifts: Afternoon/Evening Shifts

Starting rate: $19.50/hrto $23.00/hr for Class 1 Operators

Hours: 40 hours per week

Overtime: Paid 1.5 times base rate of pay after 40 hours in that week.

Benefits: Start after 6 months of full-time employment and includes current company benefits package as well as an, optional voluntary RRSP participation of 2% of salary to a maximum $2,000.00 annually

 

Nature of Work

Plastics processing machine operators set up and operate plastic mixing and extruding processing machines used in the processing of plastic material. Handle, move, load and unload materials by hand or by using a variety of material handling equipment.

Main Duties

  • Set up and operate extruding machines which extrude plastic compound through a nozzle or die.
  • Change dies on extruding machines according to production line change.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain and make minor repairs to equipment.
  • Monitor quality of material produced.
  • Maintain inventory of material, and clean working area.
  • Load, unload and move products and materials by hand or using basic material handling equipment.
  • Perform other material handling activities such as counting, weighing, sorting, packing and unpacking.
  • Operate devices to load and unload materials onto and off trucks and loading docks of warehouses and industrial establishments.
  • Operate industrial trucks to transport materials to and from transportation vehicles and loading docks and to store and retrieve materials in warehouse area.
  • May perform other activities, such as opening containers and crates, filling warehouse orders, assisting in taking inventory and weighing and checking materials.
  • Complete the expected amount of production.
  • Always work in a safe, responsible manner.
  • Adhere to all company policies and follow Health and Safety rules
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Skills Required:

  • Ability to do physical work at a steady pace.
  • Ability to operate, set up, monitor and maintain extruder.
  • Ability to recognize characteristics of different material and adjust work accordingly.
  • Ability to complete production reports.
  • Effective communications skills.

 

Education/Experience Required:

  • Grade 12 OSSGD level preferred
  • Some experience in a physically demanding atmosphere is preferred.
  • Standard company training required.
  • Forklift competency must be achieved through training and testing.

 

Time for Competence on the Job:

  • 3 months probationary period with a review upon successful completion
  • Yearly job performance appraisal completed by supervisor
