About the Role
BAAC Construction is seeking an experienced Field Construction Manager to lead our field operations and ensure every project is executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing construction activities across multiple projects while developing high-performing Superintendents, Forepersons, and field crews. You'll work closely with Project Managers to ensure projects are properly planned, resourced, and executed while acting as the critical connection between the field and the office.
Your success will be measured by your ability to ensure nothing happening on site is ever a surprise.
What You'll Do
Lead Field Operations
- Oversee construction activities across multiple active projects.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within specifications, and to BAAC quality standards.
- Direct Superintendents and Forepersons while supporting field crews.
Construction Planning
- Partner with Estimating during project pursuits.
- Review drawings, scopes, labour requirements, equipment needs, sequencing, and construction risks.
- Support practical execution planning before projects begin.
Site Leadership
- Visit active job sites regularly.
- Identify safety, quality, staffing, scheduling, or production issues before they escalate.
- Coach field leaders to proactively identify and communicate project risks.
Workforce Development
- Mentor and develop Superintendents, Forepersons, Operators, and Labourers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with HR on employee development, coaching, and performance management.
Resource & Equipment Management
- Plan labour and equipment requirements through rolling look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate with Operations to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Forecast future resource needs.
Safety & Quality
- Champion BAAC's safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs, inspections, FLRAs, toolbox talks, and company reporting requirements.
- Drive quality assurance and reduce deficiencies and rework.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Represent BAAC professionally with clients, consultants, inspectors, municipalities, and subcontractors.
- Build strong working relationships while maintaining exceptional customer service.
Reporting & Communication
- Maintain visibility of all active projects.
- Provide accurate updates on crews, equipment, progress, and project risks.
- Participate in leadership planning and resource meetings.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Extensive construction leadership experience in civil construction, telecommunications, utilities, or heavy infrastructure.
- Experience managing multiple crews and projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field operations.
- Ability to identify issues early and implement practical solutions.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of underground utility construction.
- Health & Safety certifications.
- Strong understanding of construction equipment and workforce planning.
